Are you an experienced heavy vehicle maintenance leader looking for your next challenge? This is an outstanding opportunity to join a well-established refrigerated transport company operating across local and linehaul distribution.

We are seeking a hands-on Workshop Manager to lead a heavy vehicle workshop, ensuring the fleet remains safe, compliant and operating at peak performance. Reporting directly to the General Manager – Transport & Fleet, you will lead a team of experienced mechanics and apprentices across two shifts while driving a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys being on the workshop floor, mentoring their team and solving problems—not sitting behind a desk.

About the Role

As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshop and the maintenance of the truck and trailer fleet. Your focus will be on maximising fleet availability, maintaining NHVR compliance and leading a high-performing maintenance team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing mechanics and apprentices across morning and afternoon shifts
  • Planning and coordinating preventative and scheduled maintenance programs
  • Managing workshop operations to minimise fleet downtime and maximise vehicle availability
  • Ensuring all servicing, repairs and inspections meet NHVR accreditation and compliance requirements
  • Maintaining a strong safety culture and ensuring safe work practices are consistently followed
  • Managing workshop budgets, procurement, supplier relationships and inventory control
  • Monitoring parts usage and maintaining effective stock levels
  • Coordinating repairs and maintenance to meet operational requirements
  • Supporting weekend maintenance requirements when required
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across workshop performance, productivity and quality

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle or Heavy Diesel Mechanic (completed apprenticeship preferred)
  • Strong heavy diesel mechanical knowledge
  • Minimum five years’ industry experience, including at least three years supervising or managing a workshop
  • Demonstrated success managing a heavy vehicle workshop or fleet maintenance operation
  • Experience leading multi-shift maintenance teams
  • Sound understanding of NHVR accreditation, compliance and inspection requirements
  • Experience managing workshop budgets, procurement, supplier relationships and parts inventory
  • Current unrestricted Victorian Driver’s Licence (HR Licence or higher)

Highly Regarded

  • Experience within refrigerated or cold-chain transport
  • Experience using Freight 2020 or similar fleet management software
  • Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
  • Experience managing NHVR audits

What’s on Offer

  • Join a respected refrigerated transport business with a modern fleet
  • Leadership role with autonomy and influence
  • Opportunity to build and develop a high-performing workshop team
  • Supportive executive leadership
  • Stable, long-term career opportunity
  • Competitive salary package based on experience
